news in English / Noticias en ingles
For six days between May 1 and 6, 2017, an international assembly of cellists from different countries offers various perspectives on the art of music and invites the audience to explore the diversity of musical forms, styles and genres. A special competition for cellists is held for the first time in Klaipėda, in which young musicians compete in the presence of the authoritative international jury. The festival fills the city with sounds from the early morning till late at night, offering a programme packed with concerts, master classes, seminars, exhibitions, film screenings, theatre and dance performances. A wide range of art forms across the disciplines, the synergy of various cultural institutions and artists, a broad selection of events for various tastes turned Klaipėda into a capital of cello during the first week of May!
Did you know that Klaipėda is the place where the first Lithuania’s professional cello school was established? According to historical facts, 1923 was the year when Klaipėda Music School opened the first cello performance specialisation in Lithuania, which was taught by German and Czech professors. Klaipėda seeks to nourish the professional cello school tradition and gather an open-minded community of prestigious foreign and Lithuanian musicians, young talented performers and music admirers.
