126) Hello David. We have never met but I just wanted to write and say how much I appreciate the music you have made available via your website. I have always enjoyed listening to the cello and after retirement decided to have a go at learning to play. I could already read music having played a little piano in my youth and fairly quickly got a repertoire together of easy first position pieces. Things get a little more complicated after that of course. There is no shortage of easy music for cello and keyboard. However I’ve had real trouble finding a selection of worthwhile music for unaccompanied cello which is aimed at players of my level (about grade 3 at present). Your volumes of Bach inspired pieces are just what I have been looking for. Challenging enough to be stimulating but not so difficult as to seem unattainable and hence discouraging. The Bach suites themselves are on the distant horizon. {I’ve been playing for about eighteen months}. One dau who knows? I can but dream. Thanks so much once again for providing entertataining, stimulating and worthwhile music to fill this gap in the repertoire. Kind regards. Frederick Peter Ridall (Grimsby, UK)
125) Guau! Vaya trabajazo! Enhorabuena David!
The Sonata Lirica for bassoon and piano of D. Johnstone is a works of an evident expressive and lyrical character. Without doubt it will help the young bassoonist of medium-advanced level explore/discover interesting and attractive sonorities, thanks to varying modulations which are encountered in the course of the musical argument, which give the piece an expressive richness.
JOSE MANUEL RAUSELL – Spanish Bassoonist, Principal of the La Rioja Conservatoire (Spain)
The work “Five times two is eleven” is a very original creation for two groups of brass instruments. The symphonic description of the sporting action is unforgettable. However, it is worthwhile investigating further and if possible extend the musical action. The trumpet players, horn players, trombonists and the tuba musicians are going to be delighted!

Enhorabuena.
I have Heard it (‘Sinfonia of Passion’) a couple of times. It is a very beautiful work. Indeed it seems almost too short. 12) Hola, David! Josean

9) Hi, my name is Zak Adams. I have played your Petit Tango and your Scherzo in the recital and solo music for violoncello category. I listened to your pizzicato blues and I really liked it. I was just wondering how I could get a score for it. I was hoping to play it in a recital. Thx- Zak.
ZAK ADAMS - Canadian Cellist
8) I didn't want to write you until I had a chance to really sit with the music you sent me. Well this past week I did just that. I had a few of my most advanced students meet at my studio to read through your cello ensembles and they are absolutely amazing...as is all your music. I really love it. One of my students is working on the Haydn in D and I gave him your cadenza....we both love it. And your solo work is just incredible. Seriously man, I don't know why you aren't more famous. Then again, I'm sure you will be. I'm going to have some of my more advanced students play some of your music and will send you a recording as soon as they perform it. I played through all of it and there are a few that I might actually work on, either for performance or maybe even a Youtube video...not sure yet. Anyway, thank you again so much for your wonderful music.
WELLS CUNNINGHAM - North American Cellist

DAVID STRANGE - Profesor & Head of Strings, Royal Academy of Music, London)
5) Anyway, I did receive the music and everything looks fantastic. Must tell you I’m surprised at the seeing of my image on the front cover!!
ERNESTO SCHMIED - Recorder soloist based in Spain
4) I’ve played through the Solo Oboe Sonata once so far on the Piano. There are a handful of priceless phrases in there which if I was a plagiarist I would happily pinch and use as a starting point for some of my own work. But do not fear, I will not do that !! you actually use complex bi-tonal arpeggios most of the time which by my standards, are fine. However, the resounding ending in E flat to my ear works perfectly and is a fitting climax to the work. General comments – well done & hope to hear a live performance some time soon!
JONATHAN S. FEBLAND - British professional composer (1960-2017)
3) Thank you so very much for sending me your compositions. I wish I could find titles as imaginative as yours! It's a rather unique collection you've put together: pieces of that nature are rather rare for the solo cello. Maybe less so for cello and piano, but with the pieces you've sent me you have really filled the gap! You sure know your tango! It's as easy to be swept away by your Tango Concierto as by any tango of the famous ones. And in the case of Bach, it seems that we are fighting the for the same thing: extending the repertoire beyond the Suites.
MATS LIDSTROM - Swedish Solo Cellist - Profesor Royal Academy of Music, London (ex-principal with the Royal Swedish Opera, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Norrköping Orchestra)
2) REALLY REALLY REALLY impressed with your marvellous pieces!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They ALL have something clever or beautiful in them. Of course, I’m a cellist and they’re written so well for the cello, but Simon (still Professor of Music at Goldsmiths, Univ. of London, though also Deputy Vice-chancellor) thinks they’re marvellous too (and he is NEVER easily impressed). Much love,
ALICE McVEIGH - American/British London-based cellist
1) Hi David! Of course I would be very happy to accept your dedication to me on your wonderful Legato Blues! I wish you much success with the book.
