PREMIERE of a Solo Cello piece of Agústin Acilu written in 1986
…
The Navarre Symphony performed its opening subscription concert yesterday in the main 1600 seat hall of Pamplona, the ‘Baluarte’.
Before the orchestra entered stage I was entrusted to perform – during a special presentation homage – a small unaccompanied work of the Navarre born composer Agustín González Acilu (b.1929), who recently passed away.
It was a responsibility indeed to perform his “Extracciones” – he wrote it in 1986, yet despite an important career with a magnitude of performances and prizes it seems no-one has in fact played it; there is not even mention of this in his official biography.
I had previously played some of his music in orchestra previously, and had spoken to him on various occasions, so I especially took seriously the role of ‘homage man’!
I must perform it more, and indeed record it!
