The movements are:

I – Thanksgiving (Agradeciendo) – slow and felt (quarter-note = c.54)
II – Positivity (La Positividad) – allegro moderato, ma fluido (quarter-note = c.92)

Brief Information:

Musical level – Ideal for medium level violinists AND accordionists and upwards!  (this corresponding with UK grades 6 to 8; España – Grado Medio).

This sonatina is of some seven minutes duration, is composed as a “positive” work! Originally the faster second was born fruition of a commission for a production about the Josefina Arregui Clinic, Alsasua, Navarra (Spain) and its creator, Felipe Lecea. With the mere basics of using one tune and one accompanying figure of a rippling motion Johnstone clearly creates a sonata form structure, with a final coda of joyous pride. The later composed first movement is very cyclical with the second, and forms a long slower introduction…

With thanks to Aitor Urkiza as musical editor and preparatory work.
