General difficulty of the music – other brief Information:

EASY – all parts (no voice goes beyond 4th position or octave harmonic A)

Ideal for the cello class …

Song of the Chanter/Chanter’s Tune/Chanter’s Song, or also known as The Chanter’s March, is a march that has been accepted into the traditions of Scotland, Ireland and the Isle of Man. It’s thought that it originates as an uilleann pipe tune from Ireland and used as an Irish Clan March… but this fact may be disputed by harpers! The Chanter’s Song has been added to 297 (celtic) tunebooks. It is usually placed more in the minor keys, but this cello version is happily into the major.

What you should know about this arrangement is that cellos 1 to 4 are obligatory, but cellos 5 to 8 are optional in this way:

If 5 Cellos – use parts 1-4 and 8

If 6 Cellos – use parts 1-4 and 7-8

If 7 Cellos – use parts 1-4 and 6-8

If 8 Cellos – use every part

This will also work very well in a large cello ensemble or orchestra. In this case cellos 1 and 2 should have the most players, but balance this out as you wish!!
