Antônio Carlos “Tom” Jobim (25th January 1927 – 8th December 1994) was a Brazilian composer, songwriter, pianist/guitarist and arranger who was a primary creator of the bossa nova musical genre. His work, like the iconic song “The Girl from Ipanema” (Garota de Ipanema), blended the rhythms of Brazilian samba with the sophistication of jazz, becoming an international sensation.

A pivotal figure in Brazilian music, Jobim’s sophisticated melodies and harmonies are now standard repertoire for many jazz and pop artists worldwide.
