J-M – Pop Piece based on ‘When I’m 64’ (Beatles) – FOUR CELLOS

Other Identification:
“When I’m Sixty-Four” is a song by The Beatles, written by Paul McCartney and featured on their 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. A love song detailing plans for a shared future, it was one of McCartney’s earliest compositions, written when he was about 14 years old. The song is notable for its prominent clarinet trio, a sped-up recording to make McCartney’s voice sound younger, and its light, music hall style.
Movements or sections:
A sparkling transcription, with ‘buoyant’ writing in every part. A conductor is hardly needed (hence no general score) although one may be used ‘just to keep time’… Johnstone makes this a real cello ensemble joy!
Instrumentation:
QUARTET OF FOUR CELLOS
Arranged by David Johnstone
