Federico García Lorca (1898–1936) was a renowned Spanish poet, playwright, and theater director, considered one of Spain’s greatest literary figures and a key member of the Generation of ’27. His works, known for their fusion of folk traditions, Andalusian culture, and avant-garde style, explore themes of passion, social constraint, and identity. He achieved fame with The Gypsy Ballads (1928) and wrote dramatic masterpieces like Blood Wedding and The House of Bernarda Alba. Lorca’s life ended tragically when he was executed by fascist forces at the start of the Spanish Civil War in 1936.
