VANDINI – Sonata in F Major – 5 CELLOS

Other Identification:
Antonio Vandini (1691 – 1778), a close friend of Giuseppe Tartini, was a cellist and composer. He was one of the foremost virtuoso performers of his era and spent the vast majority of his career as the first violoncellist of the ″Veneranda Arca″ at the Basilica del Santo in Padua, where Tartini was first violinist and concertmaster. Upon the death of Tartini, he returned to Bologna, the city of his birth, where he died in 1778.
Movements or sections:
Please note:
Vandini has only seven confirmed surviving works, all of which are preserved in manuscript copies throughout Europe, namely in Venice, Berlin, Paris, and Schwerin. All of these pieces are written in the galant style, popular in Italy in the eighteenth century. However, there are two short sonatas each in a sole movement – in G Major, and THIS sonata in F Major – that are attributed to Vandini by Carl Schroeder in 1911 (published by Schott) but the authenticity of these works is today very much in doubt.

QUINTET OF FIVE CELLOS – SOLOIST AND FOUR ACCOMPANYING CELLOS
Arranged by David Johnstone

1 PDF, with all the individual parts (no score)
