This piece is a cello transcription based on the real-life interpretation of the jazz pianist George Shearing in the 1940s. I think it is ideal for cello ensembles but should be attempted by fairly competent cellists …
Why, you’ll ask, these parts don’t seem that hard?!
Well, the rich and close part writing means that the piece really does need a high quality and ‘adaptable’ intonation together with a rounded medium size vibrato that is fairly regular and fairly constant in all parts. Therefore, this makes for great practice by a cello ensemble but rewarding results, and the chance to stamp a personal interpretation!
