“Resignation,” Op. 8 by Wilhelm Fitzenhagen is a romantic-era cello piece composed in 1872, subtitled “A sacred Song Without Words”. It was published by Breitkopf & Härtel the same year. It was originally written for solo cello with an accompaniment of organ, harmonium, or piano, and was dedicated to Eduard Klein. The work is characterized by its reverential and reflective nature, and was probably intended for church performance.
