Wouter De Backer Gotye is an Australian musician, though he was born and spent his first two years living in Belgium. He is best known for the 2011 hit “Somebody That I Used to Know,” which earned him two Grammy Awards. A multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, he is also a founding member of the indie-pop trio The Basics. His music is known for blending various genres, including indie pop, folk, and electronica, and his work is often characterized by its detailed and experimental production.

He co-founded the Melbourne-based indie-pop trio ‘The Basics’ in 2002, releasing several independent albums. After his mainstream success, Gotye became more private, releasing a statement in 2014 that there would be “no new Gotye music,” though he didn’t rule out future projects.
