The jazz standard “Laura” is a well-known instrumental piece that became a popular song with lyrics by Johnny Mercer, based on the theme composed by David Raksin for the 1944 film of the same name. While the music was written for the film, Mercer wrote the lyrics separately afterward, completing them in 1945.
