Mendelssohn’s Wedding March is a famous piece of music composed by Felix Mendelssohn in 1842 as part of his incidental music for Shakespeare’s play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

It is now commonly played at weddings, usually for the recessional as the couple exits the ceremony. The first time the piece was recorded as being played at a wedding was for the marriage of Dorothy Carew and Tom Daniel in 1847 in Tiverton, England. However, its popularity at weddings began rising substantially after Victoria, the Princess Royal, chose it for her 1858 marriage. This is a trend that continues today, with literally millions of newly weds across the world choosing this imposing music, with a majority choosing organ or string players as there preferred setting.
