BACH – Brandenburg Concerto No.3, BWV 1048 – 10 CELLOS

Other Identification:
Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major (BWV 1048) is a Baroque work from 1721 known for its innovative string instrumentation and contrapuntal complexity. The piece is scored for three violins, three violas, three cellos, and basso continuo, treating each instrument group as an equal part in a call-and-response style.

Originally arranged when Johnstone was a student at the Royal Academy of Music, London, and revised in 2008.
Movements or sections:
Its structure lacks a traditional slow movement, instead featuring two fast, virtuosic movements separated by a brief, two-chord adagio that was likely intended for improvisation.
Instrumentation: ENSEMBLE OF TEN CELLOS
Arranged by David Johnstone
