AULIN, Laura Valborg – Meditation, Op.30 No.3 (1898) – 8 CELLOS

Laura Valborg Aulin (1860–1928) was a Swedish pianist and composer known for her works for piano, chamber music, and orchestra. Born in Gävle, she studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and with influential teachers like Niels Gade and Jules Massenet. Aulin’s career as a composer in Stockholm was followed by a move to Örebro, where she worked as a music teacher.

Her notable works include two string quartets, considered important contributions to Swedish music from the 1880s, and orchestral suites like Tableaux Parisiens.

Her work was appreciated in her time, but she was often overlooked later on. Her music has seen renewed interest and performances in recent years.
Movements or sections: The 3 Fantasy Pieces Op.30, were written in 1898, and are titled:
Berceuse. Andante con moto (E-flat major)
Humoresk. Allegro energico (F-sharp major)
Meditation. Lento e grave (C-sharp minor)

The first performance of these pieces were in 1901 in Valborg, at a special “Aulin’s Composition Evening”
