BEETHOVEN – Canon ‘Ewig Dein’ (‘Eternally Yours’) – THREE CELLOS (easy)

Other Identification:
The amiable canon of Ludwig Van Beethoven “Ewig Dein” (‘Eternally Yours’) in three voices was given the classification number “WoO 161”. The circumstance of the composition is not known, but probably was a gift to someone as a token of friendship – or even love, who knows?! One rumoured candidate is said to be Antonie Adamberger, who he got to know through the ‘Egmont’ theatre project. We know it is indeed by Beethoven from the autograph score clearly in his hand.
Movements or sections:
It was originally set in C Major; David Johnstone transposes it into G Major so as to be most effective as a small concert piece for young cellists, or those without having progressed far yet.
Instrumentation: TRIO OF THREE CELLOS
Prepared by David Johnstone

Downloads of 2 PDFs:
[1 – General Score
[2 – All individual parts
Approximate difficulty: EASY
For cellists today, this can be played with three ‘solo’ cellos, or by a larger (or even much larger!) cello ensemble. It really is excellent for first-year cellists; all parts are of equal importance, and all parts are ENTIRELY in the first position with NO extensions! And, on top, it sounds good!
