GERSHWIN, George (and Ira) – Choral Melody based on ‘Love is Here to Stay’ – FOUR CELLOS (easy)

Other Identification:
“Love Is Here to Stay” is a popular song by George and Ira Gershwin, notable as George’s final composition before his death (he passed away in July 1937). Ira Gershwin wrote the lyrics posthumously, with help from Oscar Levant, to complete the song for the 1938 film The Goldwyn Follies. The song, which reflects the endurance of love against time and change, became a jazz standard and has been featured in numerous films and recordings.

The song was first introduced by singer Kenny Baker in the 1938 movie musical The Goldwyn Follies. The song quickly became a jazz standard and a beloved piece of American popular song.
Movements or sections:
The song was originally titled “It’s Here to Stay,” then “Our Love Is Here to Stay.” It was eventually published as “Love Is Here to Stay,” though Ira later expressed a desire to change it back!

The lyrics, which are a poignant tribute to love, contrast the fleeting nature of modern technology and even natural landmarks with the permanence of enduring love.
