SCHUBERT – Melody of ‘The Trout’ – FOUR CELLOS (easy)

Other Identification:
The melody from Schubert’s song Die Forelle (The Trout) is a cheerful, well-known tune about a fisherman catching a trout. The song, written in 1817 when the composer had hardly turned 20, is based on a poem by Christian Friedrich Schubart and famously forms the basis for the fourth movement of Schubert’s Piano Quintet in A major, also known as the “Trout Quintet”. While the music itself is bright, the full poem’s ending provides a moral warning to young women about deceitful suitors, which Schubert, though not setting the final verse, alluded to in the piano quintet arrangement.
Movements or sections: marked ‘Andante’ and the music is cast in binary form.
