“Czardas” is a four-minute musical piece from 1904 by the Italian composer Vittorio Monti (1868-1922), inspired by the Hungarian folk dance of the same name. It is a work for violin (originally for violin and piano or mandolin), known for its contrasts between slow, languid sections (Lassú) and fast, energetic sections (Friss). The piece has been widely adapted for other instruments and ensembles, and remains a very popular showcase piece.
Movements or sections: Slow introduction, with a fast furious Allegro (with a much calmer middle section).
