Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Arioso” is a famous piece originally written as the sinfonia for his cantata, BWV 156, Ich steh mit einem Fuß im Grabe (I Stand with One Foot in the Grave). It’s also the second movement of his Harpsichord Concerto in F minor, BWV 1056, and is a lyrical, expressive, and melodic instrumental piece, despite the term “arioso” originally being a vocal form. The piece has been widely arranged for various instruments, including guitar, flute, and wind ensembles.
