GARCIA, Fulgencio – Pasillo fiestero ‘Vino Tinto’ – SEXTET OR CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

Other Identification:
Born in Purificación, Tolima, on May 10th, 1880, and died in Bogotá on March 4th, 1945, the composer Fulgencio García was a skilled disciple of Pedro Morales Pino, perhaps the best of them all.

He made his career in Bogotá, where he lived from a young age and became an exceptional player of the bandola, although he also mastered other stringed instruments. He was a member of the student musical groups of his teacher and of Emilio Murillo. His most important composition is undoubtedly “La gata golosa” (The Greedy Cat), which dates from 1912 and was initially titled “Soacha,” but was renamed after a candy store located in that very town in Cundinamarca.

Other pieces in his repertoire include the instrumental pasillos “Vino tinto” (Red Wine), “Coqueteos” (Flirtations), “Castilla” (Castile), and “Toño”; the bambucos “Qué nos importa bien mío” (What Do We Care About My Own Goodness) and “El destemplado” (The Out-of-Temperate One); the gavotte “Luna de miel” (Honeymoon); “Diciembre” (December) and “Del mar la ola” (The Wave from the Sea), among many others.
