HANDEL – Sarabande in D minor (from the Keyboard Suite, HWV 437) – STRING ORCHESTRA

Other Identification:
Handel’s “Sarabande” in D minor is the fourth movement of his Keyboard Suite in D minor, HWV 437, a Baroque piece likely composed around 1703–1706 for solo harpsichord. It was first published in 1733 and is known for its slow, solemn, triple-time dance rhythm.

A striking and forceful Baroque composition which has, if anything, grown in popularity these last few years. In this arrangement the variations are treated by David Johnstone to offer all the string sections and their principal players a variety of colours within a Baroque feel.
Movements or sections:
A well developed Sarabande in variation form.
Instrumentation: STRING ORCHESTRA (with optional harpsichord)
Arranged by David Johnstone
