EASY CELLO SOLOIST SERIES No.10 – Song ‘The Curious One’ (Schubert-Popper) – CELLO AND STRING ORCHESTRA

Other Identification:
When we play a cello solo with orchestra almost everyone thinks we have to play something difficult, loud, and in high registers; the word ‘virtuoso’ comes to mind. But why does it have to be like this? Well, it doesn’t at all! The idea of the pieces in this series, which I call the EASY CELLO SOLOIST SERIES, is to present a cello soloist who does not have to play in thumb position (or at least very rarely) or complicated bowing rhythms, and who can purely concentrate on making nice music and enjoy themselves rather than have a priority of ‘showing off’!

Movements or sections:
This piece is part of a growing series, numbering 10 compositions as of Autumn 2025.
Instrumentation: CELLO SOLOIST WITH STRING ORCHESTRA
Arranged by David Johnstone

Downloads of 2 PDFs:
[1 – General Score and part for Soloist Cello
[2 – All Orchestral individual parts
Approximate difficulty:
These pieces might be played by full professionals (as ‘encores’) or modest students. They might be performed by any age group; indeed, they might make a nice prize for worthy music school students as they make their very first venture with an orchestra backing them.

The string orchestral parts are comfortable for all orchestras, no matter how modest they might be. Do enjoy it!
