SCHUMANN – Abendlied (Evening Song), Op.85 No.12 – SOLO CELLO AND STRING ORCHESTRA

Other Identification:
“Abendlied” (Evening Song) is a popular piece by Robert Schumann, originally the twelfth of his “12 Pieces for Four Hands” (Op. 85). Its German text is by poet Gottfried Kinkel, and the lyrics evoke a sense of quietude, with themes of night falling and stars appearing, as well as a comforting message to cast away sadness. The piece’s beautiful melody has led to many arrangements for different instruments and ensembles. All in all, it is a wonderfully romantic song by Schumann whichs almost looks ahead to the writing of Wagner.
