WAGNER – Overture to ‘Tannhauser’ – OCTET (STRING QUINTET with PIANO TRIO)

Other Identification:
The Wagner Overture to Tannhäuser is a famous orchestral piece by Richard Wagner, composed in 1845, that introduces themes from his opera Tannhäuser. The overture dramatically depicts the opera’s central theme: the conflict between sacred and profane love, and redemption. It contrasts the solemn “Pilgrims’ Chorus” with the sensuous, turbulent music of the Venusberg, creating a work that is often performed separately from the opera as a stand-alone concert piece.
