JOHNSTONE – Los Acordes de la Memoria, film music – TRIO VIOLA, CELLO AND PIANO

Other Identification:
“The Chords of the Memory” is a documentary about the connections between music, science, and memories, based on the premise that we are what we can experience beyond our memory.
Produced by Raúl Medinabeitia
Directed by Fernando Vera
With Vicente Madoz, founder of the Josefina Arregui Clinic, Alsasua, Navarre. It is at this centre that eight of the Alzheimer’s patients featured in the film take part in the workshops. They rediscover music and art, finding a connection with reality and their past. The film, shot in real time, explores the power of music as a therapeutic tool to evoke memories and connect with patients, showing the process of supporting families and experts in the field. This has improved the lives of people with dementia.
David Johnstone both played cello and composed for the documentary film, in 2021. Some of these musical fragments have been made into a concert piece for an unusual trio including the Basque flute ‘txistu’ which has been replaced by Viola in this version.
