Cello and Beyond

A leading creative cellist

British-born and now a Spanish citizen, David Johnstone is considered one of Spain’s most creative string musicians.

Long-term principal cello of the Navarre Symphony Orchestra and member of the Garaikideak Ensemble, he has also performed with the Royal Philharmonic, English String Orchestra, London Concert Orchestra, and other Spanish and British orchestras. In Navarra alone, he has premiered 30+ works as soloist and chamber musician. Over a dozen recordings — including tango ensembles, clarinet-cello-piano trios for Warner Music (Spanish National Music Awards nominee), and his own original string quartet pieces — have been regularly broadcast on Spanish National Radio. For nearly a decade, he collaborated with Spanish Television ‘Tele Cinco’ as cellist and composer. He now collaborates in many new projects, some of them quite unusual!
