The composition “Sonatina for Piano Solo” is a musical present to the office employee of the Navarre Symphony Orchestra (Spain) – Consuelo Pola – and her daughter Silvia, much appreciated by the composer. It is a highly lyrical work, set in a modern romanticism with the soul of ‘comfort’ o ‘consolation’, perhaps in the line of film soundtrack music.

It is structured with a principal melody and another secondary fragment which are developed by variation, transformation and modulations which give the piece rather more weight than a simple song, hence the title ‘Sonatina’.

medium – Although perhaps not a piece to be played at first sight, it should not present many problems for pianists of intermediate levels and upwards.

Personal

David Johnstone lives near Pamplona (Navarre, Spain) with his wife Rosa and their two “Spanglish” children, close to the Atlantic Pyrenees. The nearest international airport is Bilbao.

He is interested in world affairs, politics, animal rights, and most sports (including being a lifelong suffering Reading FC fan!). Also passionate about Celtic culture and genealogy, he has traced his ‘English’ family back to 1280, although Scotland and Ireland have also shaped his background. And yes — he is half-ashamed to admit it, he loves silly jokes!

Social Work

David Johnstone supports animal rights, he is against any form of abuse towards them, and says a loud “NO” to bullfighting, foxhunting and any other animal cruelty.
