WILLIAMS, John – Melodie-Fantasie based on the main theme to Schindler’s List – SOLO CELLO

Other Identification:
The main theme of “Schindler’s List” is a moving piece composed by John Williams, masterfully performed by violinist Itzhak Perlman. The award-winning soundtrack reflects the film’s atmosphere and has been performed by various artists, including Anne-Sophie Mutter and Gautier Capuçon..
The soundtrack to “Schindler’s List” was a critical and commercial success, winning an Academy Award for Best Original Score, a BAFTA Award for Best Film Score, and a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media..
Movements or sections:
One lyrical movement, created as a new composition!
Instrumentation:
Solo Cello. There are other versions to this theme set by David Johnstone in this web site.
Approximate difficulty:
Comfortable music, all within the first four positions and octave harmonic (the final note in 6th position might be lowered an octave if necessary). The melody line is simply and occasionally decorated/ harmonized but it is certainly sufficient for this to sound as a cello composition, suitable for formal and informal settings (as well of being of fine use in the cello class for string crossings, occasional double-stops etc.). It should not present any difficulty to the Higher/intermediate cellist but is of certain difficulty to be able to give a good performance sense. A useful addition for solo cello.
