ELGAR – Fugue in D minor – TWO CELLOS

Other Identification:
Elgar composed the D minor fugue for his brother Frank, a fine oboist, and the violinist Karl Bammert. It is a vivacious two-part invention for flute and violin, recalling J.S. Bach in the rich harmonic implications and rhythmic freedom of the part-writing. I would also suggest some sub-conscious Max Reger influence! The fugue subject has not been traced and is almost certainly original.
Movements or sections:
marked ‘Allegro comodo’ for the cello duo version.
Instrumentation:
Duo of Two Cellos. Envisaged for two solo cellists, not larger ensembles with various on each part.
1 PDF – both individual parts included, but no score. Regular rehearsal letters are shown.
Approximate difficulty:
Medium, depending on a not too fast speed!
