BEETHOVEN – Romance in G Major, Op.40 – CELLO AND PIANO

The Romance for violin and orchestra No. 1 in G major, Op. 40, by Ludwig van Beethoven, was one of two such compositions by him, the other being the Romance No. 2 in F major, Op. 50. However, it was written about 1801, after the second Romance, and yet was published 1803, two years before the publication of the second. So, this romance is designated as Beethoven’s first! It is scored for violin solo and an orchestra of strings, two oboes, two bassoons, two horns and flute, but is often accompanied on piano.

Originally for violin and orchestra or piano) – this version is the cello and piano transcription by Friedrich W. Grützmacher (please note that from this music another possibility is the version for Six Cellos or Cello Orchestra of David Johnstone).
