JOHNSTONE – Intima – CLARINET TRIO (CLARINET-CELLO-PIANO), OR CLARINET WITH STRING ORCHESTRA

This is an elegiac piece somewhat similar to the Bruch ‘Kol Nidrei’ where Johnstone coaxes a high melancholic poignancy from the three musicians, but especially from the clarinet. The cello and piano help with deep romantic harmonies and textures. The outer parts are slower moving deep music whilst the central section is somewhat more animated.
NOTE: it is also possible to perform by Clarinet or Cello or viola as soloist with String Orchestra, the clarinet being ideal for ths purpose.
If clarinetists wish to consider playing this with orchestra then please see the version for Cello and Strings for the general conductor score and remember that the orchestral parts are the SAME.

Personal

David Johnstone lives near Pamplona (Navarre, Spain) with his wife Rosa and their two “Spanglish” children, close to the Atlantic Pyrenees. The nearest international airport is Bilbao.

He is interested in world affairs, politics, animal rights, and most sports (including being a lifelong suffering Reading FC fan!). Also passionate about Celtic culture and genealogy, he has traced his ‘English’ family back to 1280, although Scotland and Ireland have also shaped his background. And yes — he is half-ashamed to admit it, he loves silly jokes!

Social Work

David Johnstone supports animal rights, he is against any form of abuse towards them, and says a loud “NO” to bullfighting, foxhunting and any other animal cruelty.
