JOHNSTONE -Walking to Heaven with the Masters – STRING ORCHESTRA

Other Identification:
The composition ‘Walking to Heaven with the Masters’ was written for an unusual string orchestral combination in 2001, by using an extra violin section – but was revised in 2013 to ‘normal’ string sections and with improvement in the distribution of part-writing.
The ‘masters’ refer to the number of musical quotes from some of the greatest composers in history, although many of these are disguised. This is set in a moderate but a propulsion of rhythm, and can be considered on the frontier between jazz and classical, making it a popular choice amongst both string players and the general public.
