SARASATE – Playera, Op.23 No.1 – CELLO AND PIANO

Other Identification:
La Playera, Op. 23, No. 1, is a melancholic composition for violin and piano by the celebrated Spanish violinist and composer Pablo de Sarasate. It is a slow piece that opens with a kind of half-improvised violin melody, accompanied by a repetitive piano pattern (ostinato). It is part of his collection of dances, inspired by Spanish folk music. It is well different from its companion piece of Op.23, the lively and thunderous Zapateado!
