Louis Vierne’s Two Pieces, Op. 5, original pieces for VIOLA and piano is the first known chamber music score by the composer, otherwise famous for his organ work. Composed at the beginning of 1895 , these pieces are dedicated to the violist Victor Balbreck, who gave their first performance on April 5th, 1895, Salle Érard in Paris , with the author at the piano, as part of the concerts of the Société de musique nouvelle that Louis Vierne helped to found. The work received praise from ‘Le Monde Musical’ in the critical review ten days later.
