COMPOSITION NOTES –
Tango World is a series of pieces in tango style, or with certain tango influence, prepared by David Johnstone. Some of the pieces use tango melodic cells or fragments already composed by others but uniquely adapted to cellos, whilst others are totally original inventions of David Johnstone from the outset.
These pieces have been careful scored so as to be perfectly playable by elementary level cellists (and especially relevant to Grades 1 to 5 in Great Britain, or ‘Grado Elemental’ in Spain). Hopefully you will consider these pieces as worthy musical ‘compositions’ and could be performed by cellists well above those afore mentioned levels – indeed right up to professional performance levels. In this piece the more participants the better for the wonderful mass of sound, but are also highly effective for three solo cellos playing in ‘chamber music’ environments!
