“Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” is the popular English title for a chorale by Johann Sebastian Bach, the 10th movement of his Cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben (BWV 147), composed around 1716-1723. Though Bach harmonized and orchestrated it, the original melody was by German composer Johann Schop. The piece, famous for its transcription by pianist Myra Hess, is often performed instrumentally at weddings and funerals.
