BACH – Fantasia BWV 570 – FOUR CELLOS

Other Identification:
This piece of Johann Sebastian Bach is an individual piece for organ, not connected to a coupling fugue or other faster movement; something that was fairly unusual for the composer. However, it certainly was an excellent piece of craftmanship in the composer’s younger years (he would probably have been barely into his twenties!).
Movements or sections:
It is conceived in four voices on two manuals (without pedals), therefore making it fairly easy to transcribe for cello quartet. The key of G Major was chosen so as to be of comfortable reading to medium and advanced level cellists on the first part. The parts may be doubled up for a larger cello ensemble, up to cello orchestra size!
Instrumentation:
QUARTET OF FOUR CELLOS
Arranged by David Johnstone
