BACH – Largo (from the Double Violin Concerto in D minor, BWV 1043) – TWO CELLOS AND PIANO

Other Identification:
The “Largo” is the second movement of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, BWV 1043. It was composed around 1730, while Bach was Kapellmeister at the court of Anhalt-Köthen. It is Bach’s only concerto for two violins, and often called the “Bach Double”.
Movements or sections: This second movement, is titled ‘Largo ma non tanto’.
This popular and expressive slow movement is known for its noble, lyrical melody, where the orchestra provides accompaniment to the two solo violins, who play in a beautifully intertwined way rather than against each other.
