BASQUE traditional melody ‘Aurresku’ – SOLO CELLO

Other Identification:
Aurresku is a solemn, elegant Basque ceremonial dance to honour prominent figures or mark formal occasions like weddings and inaugurations. It is performed to show respect, and serve as a traditional welcome or tribute.
It is performed by a dantzari (dancer) to the music of a txistulari, who plays the one-handed txistu (a traditional flute) and a small drum. The modern version is a solo dance that evolved from a more communal “rope dance,” soka-dantza.
