BEETHOVEN – Adagio, from Op.34 – THREE CELLOS (easy)

Other Identification:
The “Adagio from Op. 34” refers to the first Variation of Beethoven’s Six Variations on an Original Theme in F major, Op. 34. This set of variations is notable for its unconventional approach to form and harmony, with each variation featuring a different key, tempo, and meter. However, despite the radical changes, the theme and each variation maintain the original 22-bar structure of the theme.

The work was composed around 1802, and is academically very interesting, as it marked the beginning of Beethoven’s middle period.
Movements or sections: The first variation is marked as an “Adagio,” which is of quite especially slow tempo here.
Instrumentation: TRIO OF THREE CELLOS
Arranged by David Johnstone
