BRAHMS – Main theme from 1st Symphony (4th Movement) – 5 CELLOS (easier)

Other Identification:
The main theme of the fourth movement of Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 is a grand, noble melody introduced by the strings, often compared to the “Ode to Joy” theme from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. This theme serves as a triumphant, heroic counterpoint to the movement’s dramatic and often dark nature, famously appearing after a majestic, alphorn-like call in C major that echoes from the first movement’s introduction.

The theme’s similarity to Beethoven’s work was intentional, a way for Brahms to both acknowledge and distance himself from his predecessor’s influence while ultimately forging his own symphonic voice.
