The Cello Concerto in E major by Gaspar Cassadó is a work for cello and orchestra that utilizes themes from Tchaikovsky’s Piano Pieces, Op. 72. Cassadó, a cellist himself, took nine of Tchaikovsky’s piano pieces and orchestrated them, creating a concerto.
Movements or sections:
The concerto is in three movements: the first movement includes “Scene dansante (Invitation au trepak),” “Tendres Reproches,” and “Chant Elegiaque”; the second features “Meditation” and “Dialogue”; and the third incorporates “Danse Characteristique,” “Berceuse,” “Passe Lointain,” and “Impromptu”.
