CLEMENTI – Sonatina in C Major, Op.36 No.1 – TWO CELLOS

Other Identification:
Muzio Clementi’s Sonatina in C Major, Op. 36, No. 1, is a popular beginner/intermediate piano piece known for its musical and technical elements, including scales, Alberti bass, and introductory sonata form. It is the first of six progressive sonatinas intended for pedagogical purposes, which gradually increase in difficulty. The piece is celebrated for its elegant construction from simple materials and remains a standard part of classical piano education.

These “Progressive” Sonatinas, Op. 36, were published in 1797 specifically for teaching young piano students. They are still widely used in piano education today. It is a tribute to their quality and usefulness that after more than two centuries they still perform admirably the function for which their composer intended them.
