CLERICE – Song, Mi Morena – Habanera- CELLO AND PIANO

Other Identification:
Justin Clérice was born in Buenos Aires, to French parents. He went to live in Paris as a teenager, studying with Delibes and Pessard at the Paris Conservatoire. After studying formally, he largely dedicated himself to composing for theatre productions and lighter music. His music was frequently programmed outside France; indeed, the reception outside the country was generally considerably better than inside (Lisbon and London, to name two)!
His music was sought after however, because of the modern popular styles he used. For example, this present piece was seemingly an original for piano, but Johnstone makes his cello version based on the violin-piano duo version, probably made by the composer himself. Clérice dedicated the music to Victor Brunot. As a cello solo it is difficult to perform, suitable for soloists, but is all playable! However, it has also been arranged by others, for example, for string quartet or for guitar.
