COHEN – Hallelujah – SOLOIST (Voice, Clarinet, Viola or Cello) accompanied by (2nd) CELLO

Other Identification:
“Hallelujah,” written by Leonard Cohen, is a song about the complexities of faith, love, and human struggle, with lyrics that draw on biblical imagery like the stories of David and Bathsheba and Samson and Delilah.

Originally released in 1984, the song gained significant popularity after being covered by John Cale and then Jeff Buckley, and its fame grew after being featured in the 2001 film Shrek. Cohen worked on the song for years, eventually refining many verses into the version that became famous.

It has since become one of the most covered songs in history, with over 300 known versions, and experienced a surge in popularity after Cohen’s death in 2016.
