DUPORT – ‘Adagio Cantabile’ (Study No.8, from 21 Etudes) – FIVE CELLOS

Other Identification:
Jean-Louis Duport (1749–1819) was a highly influential French cellist, composer, and pedagogue, best known for his pedagogical works and his virtuoso performances. He is particularly famous for his Essai sur le doigté du violoncelle… (“Essay on the fingering of the violoncello”), which established a basis for modern cello technique. Duport also wrote concert works for the cello, including six concertos and sonatas.

His 21 Etudes are considered difficult and are still a part of many cello conservatoire curriculums, often studied by advanced players in order to play better the classical and early romantic repertoire.
