“Mi Viejo Amor” translates as the song “An Old Love”, composed by Alfonso ESPARZA OTEO, with lyrics by Adolfo Fernández Bustamante. The collaboration involved Adolfo Fernández’s first creative words, written at Esparza Oteo’s invitation.
It has become a renowned Mexican song that has been covered by various artists and is available on platforms such as Spotify and YouTube. In central America it is even referred to as “an extraordinary piece of traditional Mexican music”.
Alfonso Esparza Oteo was born in 1894 and lived to 1950. This Mexican song was written in 1946, and David Johnstone has taken the base of a version for four trombones by J.E. Maddy to prepare this music for four cellos.
