GLAZUNOV – Chant du Menestral, Op.71 – 8 CELLOS

Other Identification:
“Chant du Menestrel,” Op. 71, by Alexander Glazunov is a short, lyrical piece for cello and orchestra or piano, composed around 1901. The title translates to “Minstrel’s Song” or “Song of the Minnesingers” (‘Canción del Trovador’ in Spanish) and it is known for its blend of bright and sentimental, melancholic melodies. Originally for cello and orchestra, Glazunov also created a version for cello and piano that was published simultaneously. Only its brief duration – only some 4 minutes or so – would appear to be the reason why it is not more often programmed with orchestra.
Movements or sections: One movement, marked ‘Lento’, in ternary form (A-B-A).
